Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

Next year, the Victoria & Albert museum will open its doors to an exhibition that will showcase the work of the late Lee Alexander McQueen. The exhibition, entitled Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, will cover the whole of the late designer's career, from his graduate collection in 1992, to his final unfinished collection in 2010. Formerly being shown in New York, which successfully was seen by over 661 509 visitors over the four months that it was open, It is now being brought to London, opening in March 2015.

From my perspective as a Fashion Promotion student, I will be interested to see, not only the clothes, but also the whole atmosphere that is put across through the exhibition. Anyone who has seen any of the original Alexander McQueen fashion shows, will know that he would create an atmosphere for his shows through the lighting, music and layout, so I hope that they reflect this in the exhibition.

Tickets are on sale now. Visit Vam.ac.uk/savagebeauty for more information.

Once Upon A Dream

Anyone who knows me, can tell you that I am a HUGE fan of Walt Disney. Its definitely something that has stayed with me throughout my life. As a child, Sleeping Beauty was my Favourite of the Disney Fairytales so imagine how happy I am now that they are recreating it in live action, centred around the Dark Fairy Maleficent played by Angelina Jolie.

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who's excited about the release of this film. Luxury Jewellery Label, Crow's Nest have teamed up with Disney for a limited edition collection that is inspired by the upcoming movie. The Collaboration consists of bracelets, rings and an ear-cuff and use the motif's of feathers, thorns, dragons and fire, that all recur throughout the film.

From looking at the collection, I think that it is full of statement pieces that you can use to create a more romantic/grundgy look.

Unfortunately, those of you, like me, that are on a student budget will not be able to afford the collection as it ranged from £2 500 and £13 500, but hey, a girl can dream right?

Stardust

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the David Bailey Stardust exhibition, that is currently being held at the National Portrait Gallery. The exhibition showed a range of photography captured by David Bailey, from Celebrity and Artist Portraits, to Travel Photography. I found the exhibition inspiring and proceeded to do some portrait shots that were inspired by David Bailey's work.

I decided to take inspiration from the Celebrity and Artist Photography from the exhibition. I liked the way that he captured the personality of his subject through the way that he made them pose. For this Picture, I highlighted the confidence of my model.

For this photo, I wanted to capture the shyness of my model so I had him posed, hiding behind his camera (as he is also a professional photographer).

For all of you photography enthusiasts who have yet to see the David Bailey Exhibition, I would definitely recommend it.

Mary for Adidas

One of my favourite designers at the moment is Mary Katranzou, so imagine how happy I was when it was revealed that the British Designer will be designing a line of clothing and shoes in a collaboration with the sports brand, Adidas.

Finally, an excuse to go to the gym/work out.

From the new collection, I hope to see a range of bright prints, keeping to Mary's style.

Mary is the most recent of fashion designers to collaborate with the sports apparel designer, with previous collaborators such as Stella McCartney, TopShop, Raf Simons, and celebrities like Pharrell Williams

The collaboration line will be released in December, so I know what's going on my Christmas list.

The Angels Hit London

I was excited to find out that this year, the Victoria's Secret will be holing their annual fashion/lingerie show in London with VS angels Adriana Lima, and Candice Swanepoel already being confirmed to walk the runway, and IT girl of the moment, Cara Delavine, is runoured to be walking the legendary Victoria Secret runway in her home town. While I know that i will never look a good as a Victoria's Secret Model (any tips or advice would be amazing and much appreciated), I am excited to see what avant garde creations the models will be wearing.

The two angel's announced the location of the 2014 show in the UK flagship store on Bond Street. The show will be held in Earls Court on the 2nd of December.

I hope that having the VS show in london will help the US based fashion and lingerie brand to become more recognized in the UK and also allow for more VS stores to open in the UK. Having been to the flagship store, I can definitely say that the whole shop experience is an enjoyable one (although crowded) and if you are in the area, I would really recommend that you go.

I can't wait.

Kate's Back

If you aren't aware of Kate Moss' new collection for TopShop, then I'm just going to assume that you've been living under a rock. After her three year hiatus from fashion design, the 40 year old model and fashion icon, is back with her fifth Collection for the high street store. Kate is famously known for her rocker chic/bohemian look, which to be honest, has not really evolved that much as she's grown up. Seven years after her first collection for TopShop, this new collection, launching on the 30th April, has a more seventies feel to it but still has elements of Kate's rocker side.

In spite of this repetition, from looking at the look book for Kate's new collection (shown above), I like it, although I don't think that the looks would be things that I would wear in the upcoming Spring/Summer Seasons.

What do you think of the Kate Moss Collection?

A tribute to Peaches Geldof

As I’m sure all of you know about the unexpected demise of Peaches Geldof, who died yesterday at her family home in Kent, at the age of 25.

As well as being the daughter of famous singer and philanthropist, Bob Geldof, Peaches was a model, presenter, writer and a mother of two.

In honor of Peaches, I have decided to put together a few of my favorite Peaches Geldof looks throughout the years. I love how her style developed and evolved as she grew up.

“Bob Geldof, the mother of two was ‘the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and most bonkers of them all.”
  -       Bob Geldof
Today, the fashion world mourns a style icon

About Me

Hey Guys.

After months of telling myself that I need to set up my Fashion Blog, it's finally done!! So in celebration of launching my blog, I guess it would be appropriate to introduce myself to you.

My name is Anisa and here is my blog, The Pretty Young Thing (like the MJ song). I am a 21 year old, fashion promotion student, currently living in London. I'm a dreamer and a fashionista. After graduating, I aspire to follow a career within the fashion industry (although I am still unsure of which area).

Through this blog, I will give you fashion news, fashion and beauty reviews, lookbook/fashion films, and fashion and beauty hauls. Occasionally, I may post about my life…. But I guess we’ll worry about that when it comes.

I hope you guys like this
