Today the
fashion world mourns the tragic passing of the New York Based fashion designer,
Oscar De La Renta at the age of 82, after a long battle with cancer. Born in
the Dominican Republic, De La Renta studied painting in madrid at the age of 18
before being hired by spanish fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. He
also traveled to Paris to work for the high fashion house Lanvin and after
this, he moved to New York, where he established his own label.
His
collections always highlighted a very feminine aesthetic, showcasing a romantic
element from his Latin heritage, and were also influenced by the more
demure and elegant cuts that he learned in Paris.
He
quickly became a favorite designer amongst society ladies and celebrities, not
only for his designs, but also for his personality.
Here are
a few of my favorite designs.
RIP
xx
